Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Shut Down Over Students Protest.


This is to inform the public that following the protest by students of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic over school fees hike,the management has decided to shut down the school indefinately.

The polytechnic management had earlier announced its decision to prevent students who are yet to pay their school fees from writing their second-semester examination.

Angered by the Management decision, the students who are yet to pay their school fees on Monday, January 22, reportedly stormed Akure/Benin expressway, preventing vehicular movement for over an hour.

Protesting students destroy school property

The protesting students also reportedly invaded the institution’s ICT centre and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.

Condemning the students’ action, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic in the institution, Mr. Rafiu Ijawoye said destroying the school properties was unacceptable and embarrassing.

Ijawoye added that he has directed all academic staff of the polytechnic to stop every academic activity till the issue is resolved.

Meanwhile, the Public Relation officer of the Polytechnic, Samuel Ojo while speaking about the protest on Channels TV said the students stole some school properties and destroyed several other during the protest.
