NYSC Corps Member Gets N3.5m For Open Heart Surgery

Succour has come the way of a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Kehinde Ogunpaimo serving in Lagos State, as the Director-General of NYSC Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure has approved the sum of N3.5million to enable doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) perform an open heart surgery on her.

It was learnt that Ogunpaimo, an indigene of Ogun State and a graduate of Food Science and Technology from the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, was born as a set of twins with sickle cell cardiomyopathy on the 17th of April, 1992.

Kehinde was said to have lived all her life with the ailment since birth with her twin sister and had managed the usual health challenges that resurfaced from time to time.

According to the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Prince Mohammed Momoh, the corps member that was deployed to the state started experiencing severe disorderliness that was initially diagnosed with sickle cell cardiomyopathy by doctors at LUTH adding that doctors at the hospital later recommended a surgery to replace her mitral and aortic valves.

‘Hence, the intervention of the Lagos State office of the NYSC that encouraged her to apply for financial assistance and this followed up at the Abuja Headquarters for intervention.

“And succor that came from the NYSC DG for Ogunpaimo with call-up number LA/165/0326. This again restates the importance placed by the authority of the 44-year-old scheme on the lives of corps members in all parts of the country.

“NYSC is there for all corps members as a responsible organisation. We just want to assure adequate welfare for corps member to get the best out of them. It is our prayer that the operation will be successful and we are in prayer with the family,” Momoh added.

Momoh said intervention of the Brigadier-General Kazaure came handy at the point her parents were contemplating submitting the documents of their landed properties to obtain a loan.

The corps member, who had her elementary education at the Able God Nursery and Primary School, Owode Yewa, is scheduled to undergo an open heart surgery and dual valve replacement at the Lagos State University Hospital (LUTH) on Thursday 19th April, 2017.

Ogunpaimo while reacting to the development expressed appreciation to the management of the NYSC and the Lagos State Secretariat of the scheme for coming to her rescue at the most critical period of her life, saying that the opportunity had given her hope to live again.
